About your coach – Jason, Bootcamp UK founder
Bootcamp UK Barnstaple is led by Jason, the person who actually founded Bootcamp UK.
- Qualified Level 3 in the Army
- Coaching soldiers in physical training since 2000
- Former head of his Regiment’s fitness department, responsible for keeping the unit fit to deploy
- After leaving the Army, Jason started Bootcamp UK and grew it into a national UK bootcamp company
- Now returning to his roots and passion: bringing people in Barnstaple together through fitness
Jason is fully qualified and insured. His background means he understands how to push people safely, adapt for all abilities, and create boot camp fitness sessions that are challenging but achievable – more supportive training camp than shouty drill‑sergeant.
What Bootcamp UK Barnstaple sessions are like
Each class is around an hour and follows a simple, effective structure:
- Warm‑up – get joints and muscles ready
- Circuit training blocks – strength, cardio and core stations
- Cool‑down and stretch – leave feeling worked, not wrecked
You’ll see classic bootcamp fitness and fitness boot camp movements:
- Squats, lunges, presses, rows
- Short runs or fast walks, plus low‑impact cardio options
- Core work and stability drills
Jason demos every exercise and gives easier and harder options, so these outdoor fitness classes and outdoor exercise classes work as beginner fitness classes or a tougher workout, depending on how hard you want to go. They’re practical fitness classes and exercise classes you can actually progress with.
Outdoor bootcamp for beginners (and people who “aren’t fit yet”)

If you’re new to exercise, “bootcamp” can sound intense. In reality, at Bootcamp UK Barnstaple you’ll see:
- People walking instead of running
- Low‑impact swaps for jumps and high‑impact drills
- Bodyweight or lighter versions of strength work
You do not need to be fit to start; you get fit by starting. The outdoor bootcamp format lets you:
- Work at your own pace
- Take breathers when you need them
- Build up week by week without feeling judged
Jason’s Army background and years of running bootcamps mean he knows how to integrate beginners into a mixed group safely and confidently.
How to get fit without a gym
![]()
If you hate crowded gyms or feel lost on the machines, this is a simpler way to get moving. At Chelfham you get:
- A ready‑made plan every time – no guessing your workout
- Coaching on technique so you move well and stay safe
- The accountability of Group Classes and regular bootcamp training
You still get all the benefits of fitness boot camp UK sessions – strength, cardio, and consistency – but as outdoor fitness, in a relaxed countryside setting instead of rows of treadmills.
Safety, injuries and age
Worried about knees, back or old injuries? You’re not the only one.
Before each session, just tell Jason what’s going on. He’ll:
- Offer low‑impact options instead of jumps
- Shorten ranges or adjust movements for sensitive joints
- Help you judge when to push and when to ease off
The goal isn’t a one‑off beasting; it’s steady, safe progress so you see results from this boot camp style training camp approach over months, not days. If in doubt, always consult your health professional before attending.

Frequently Asked Questions – Barnstaple

What is Bootcamp UK in simple terms?
Bootcamp UK runs coached, mixed‑ability outdoor fitness classes in local parks and open spaces. Sessions blend cardio and strength in a circuit‑style format, with easier and harder options so everyone can train at their level.
Is Bootcamp UK suitable for beginners?
Yes. You don’t need to be fit to start. Coaches give clear guidance and modifications, so beginners and returners can build confidence and progress safely.
What happens in a typical session?
You’ll do a mix of strength and cardio exercises (for example: squats, lunges, presses, core work, and short bursts of running or fast walking). You can work at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and still get a great workout.
Do I need to be able to run?
No. Running sections can be walked, and there are low‑impact options available.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes – please book in advance through the Bootcamp UK online booking system so you have the right info for your session and the coach can plan.
What’s the difference between Single Park and Multi Park membership?
Single Park membership is for training at one chosen location (Barnstaple). Multi Park membership gives you the flexibility to train across Bootcamp UK locations.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable workout clothes and trainers, and bring a water bottle. For evening sessions, a light layer can help depending on the weather.
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
Let the coach know before the session starts. Most exercises can be adapted, but if you’re unsure it’s best to check with a medical professional first.
What if the weather is bad?
We train outdoors, so we’re used to the elements. If anything changes due to extreme conditions, you’ll be notified. Check out what to wear to boot camp fitness classes
How do I get started?
Pick a session time, book your first class, and come along a few minutes early so we can get you settled in.
